Day 23 – The Words I Would Say

After a week where I would say my success to failure ratio has tilted, all I can do is praise Jesus. He continues to be so good to me!

Listening to The Words I Would Say¬†by the Sidewalk Prophets on the way to work just got me fired up. I cannot wait to spend time with my NE girls tonight and hopefully be a light in their life. “God’s got his hands on you so don’t live life in fear”. Mmm so good. And then my brother brings up another song by them that is just as incredible! You Love Me Anyway. Which may be more appropriate with my week ūüôā

Day 16 – A year ago, TIU updates and resting

I started to blog about how the workouts have been going in the past week and then completely got smacked in the face with how much I was taking them for granted. A year ago today I was driving to Nashville and got in an accident that broke both my feet and hands. It was a scary experience but the Lord is good. He provided me with such wonderful support even though I was not in the state of any family members.

Today, a year later, I am healed almost 100% and have the strength to do a 6 week fitness challenge. How incredible.


TIU Monday – Journaled 5 things I am grateful for on the community blog. Jesus, loved ones, my health, my job and chai. Also packed healthy lunches for the week!
TIU Tuesday – SICK. Christine and I celebrated her birthday at Hananoki Monday night and we both were sick all day Monday. No good.
TIU Wednesday – Since I was sick I moved Monday’s workout to Tuesday. Oh the SHREADmill. Holy goodness. This was the hardest workout I have done since Insanity. And that was fall 2010. Here is the workout.

  4. Sprint 2:00 minutes
  5. 20 squat jacks
  6. 20 tummy tucks
  7. 20 burpees
  8. Sprint 1:00 minute

I finished this in 33 minutes which is not that great. However there are only improvements from here! To run, because it was so cold/dark outside and I thought someone may get me, I decided to do the sprinting in my house. Which was hilarious. Running in circles through my dining room, kitchen, hall way then through my living room. Good stuff.

TIU Thursday – Running? Fail.
TIU Friday –¬†Challenged¬†to do something that made me happy. Well I dressed up in a suit (on a Friday!) and had an interview for a job that could be a wonderful challenge and great step for me. While it was nerve-wracking, it was definitely something that made me happy because I put my best foot forward and I am confident who is hired will be the best person for the job.
TIU Saturday – I switched Saturday and Sunday. Sat was working out with a friend.
TIU Sunday – Zach bought me the new EA Sports Active 2 for PS3 so we did that twice on Sunday!
TIU Monday –¬†EA Sports Active this morning for a Total Body workout that lasted 26 min. Today it says go back to your new year goals and read over them and check out how you are doing. I think I am on a decent track. Working out 100% more than last year. Eating better and happy overall. Check and check.

Jesus Calling continues to be a perfect place for the Lord to speak to me the loudest lately. Today it emphasized that rehearsing your troubles is pointless. It creates unnecessary¬†worry and fear. “Do not multiply your sufferings” “Relax in my peace”. Sure I could get worried about the job interview, friends surgery, being away from family but I refuse. I am here and enjoying what the Lord has provided me. Which just so happens today, is a day off. So I was able to sleep in, enjoy a morning workout, make coffee around lunchtime and now blogging in the middle of the day. Praying for all those things I could worry about a knowing that God is taking care of it. Matthew 11:28-30, Joshua 1:5, 9

Challenge #4 – One new baked good a month

For the ultimate counterproductive move to my 6-week fitness series, my final challenge I have taken on is one new baked good a month.

The Lord has called me this year to enjoy the things I love. Which is oh so sweet of him. Some things that I enjoy I don’t even allow myself to have the time to actually enjoy them. I feel like this is like looking at a mountain but never getting to experience the joy of looking down from the top and¬†reminiscing about the journey to get there¬†.

I LOVE baking. Possibly because I love dancing in the kitchen to my music so much but, I also love gracing people with sweets. However, I will be the first one to look at a mouth-watering picture and say, “wow , I bet that is amazing” or “That would be fun to make!” but then flip the page and go on about my business. I might tab the page if it’s lucky. But I rarely (except Christmas) go out of my way to try those new things! So in an effort to enjoy what God has given me an affinity for and to bask in sugary sweetness, I proudly accept this challenge.

I think I am most excited about the breads and the macarons although they say they are very difficult to make. Fantastic!

I think it’s about that time to workout…

Day 9 – Let me set the pace

Traveling into week two, I feel like 5 hour energy could be created from my bloodstream. Today has been a constant go-go-go.

Beginning with waking up early, unscheduled and scheduled meetings, work, workout with coworkers, birthday dinner celebration with Christine, Leg workout and odds and ends all day.

Beautifully, my precious Savior spoke to me today asking me to allow him to set the pace of my journey. He¬†reiterated¬†to me that if I want to stay close to him ask him the way moment by moment. Moment by moment. This idea so wonderful and completely energizing! As I am waking up early, celebrating a birthday dinner, or writing an email. Moment by moment asking him to set my pace and guide my steps. And trusting that he will. Just free. Pastor Craig this weekend spoke about choosing a life that is Better. About spending so much time with Jesus that you simply crave him. That life becomes as it says in Psalm 63:1-3 …better than life. Our souls crave things of this world but as we allow Him moment by moment to take us on a journey, our lives transform into something better than life. As Craig mentioned…going from a medium well stake to a medium rare stake! Yes, oh my goodness try it. The freedom and the stake.

As I continue into week two I pray that I spend moment by moment my His side. And if He wants me to stay at work talking to someone instead of reading that next chapter to better a challenge, be excited that His path is more fruitful. And I will not be ashamed of that.

I may however try and sneak it in later ūüôā

Challenge 2013?

Day 5 – Lunges make stairs difficult

If you were a fly on the wall at my work today you may have gotten a 6 pack from watching me walk up and down the stairs to get to and from my office. It took me about 5 minutes to walk up about 20 stairs. It was hysterical. Grabbing my legs and butt to try to make the soreness a little easier to handle. Yes soreness!

Yesterday I was able to get up super early (YAY!) and complete my first morning workout challenge. It was not a walk in the park. Those toneitup ladies are not joking!! I had to finish in the 38 degree weather outside because I was dying in the 70 degree furnace of a house. And what did the workout center around? Yep, legs and booty.

Here was the workout I chose. It was called Santa Baby. It does not say in the video but you do three sets of these moves then run.

Yes cheesy but I love that they are trying to be creative.

I actually enjoy being sore. It makes me feel accomplished and happy that my body is hopefully healing stronger. It makes for a great laugh too.

Todays workout…welp failure #2. I had to find a friend and try a new workout. Well, I was able to find a new DVD I wanted to try but my roommate wasn’t feeling well and when I googled “working out while sore” the results almost came out of the computer like a mom slap on the hand saying No mam. So needless to say, today I did not work out. I did have a super healthy dinner to make me feel little less guilty.

Tomorrow is the dreaded 30 reps and hour workout. I may nickname this Power Hour day. Every hour I have to do 30 lunges or 30 tummy tucks. Based on the way my legs still feel, I think my tummy is going to be tucking often.

Challenge #3 – Actually finish one book per Month

Growing up I had an unbelievable affection for books. I never wanted a TV in my room and I could always be found laying in my bed with a book in hand. Some of my favorites were…

Throughout the school years I protested reading because everyone else was telling me what to read. Unfortunately that fantastic attitude landed me in a position of never reading. Sad day. It was not until college where my love for reading came back.

Since my love for reading has been renewed…particularly with a warm cup of coffee and a blanket next to a fireplace (too picky?) I have started reading all kinds of wonderful books. Started being a keyword. I bet I have started around 11 books in the last year that I did not finish. It wasn’t because they were not interesting. Some were very compelling but then the next book seems to look more exciting to me.

I decided to make a list of 12 books that I would like to read (widdled down from a list of 90). They cover many topics, fiction and non fiction, and I shuffled them around to make a month by month list for 2012.
