Bring on the Updates!

So I have officially proven the point that I do not have a solid passion for writing. Or at least the dedication to having a blog. The year started out right then went down from there. I thought I wasn’t going to be a statistic but Hello here I am ūüôā Sweetly enough…I am okay with that.

I am happy to be who the Lord has called me to be. And at the moment I do not feel him pushing me to write this blog. To live out the ideas first wrote in it? Yes, definitely.

Sweet – Not sure if I ever posted a picture but here are the scones from Jan! Not bad for a first attempt and whole wheat!

Book – Changed to The Great Gatsby. And I didn’t finish. Oops but I am still determined to catch up.

Sweet – English Muffins COMPLETE! CHEEEA that’s what I am talking about. I loved making these. Such a different process making bread for the first time. I have to say I was a little grossed out with the foaming of yeast however it was very interesting. They did not rise like I had hoped so I thought they would turn out to look like crumpets but NO!

Jesus – After many wonderful weeks of Jesus Calling; Jesus turned my attention to something new. Okay…I¬†readily¬†admit, I am not sure if this was his plan or me being distracted but I found myself going through YouVersion on my phone and feel in love with the reading plans! I am now over 30 days through an 100 days Essential Jesus devotional. The Lord has shown me so many cool things that has been truly wonderful.

Working out – well now that the 6 week Tone It Up challenge is done. I am too. Hah well at least that is what I have been doing. Nothing…but I am working on a new¬†challenge. My second round of Insanity. I bought the DVD’s and I am working on doing it at work with a couple of great girls but my schedule keeps getting in the way! Good excuse huh? It is but I really need to find better ways to make room for fitness.

Book – Well, still not going in order but I have already started Kisses from Katie. Oh Lord you have blessed me so. I can imagine this being a book that I cling to and reread just to hear Jesus. It is SATURATED. And I adore it. What a special person. I cannot wait to finish.

Baking – I plan on making PW’s Cinnamon Rolls next week! I think that means I need to work out this week…oh boy.

Jesus – Continuing YouVersion’s plan. Good stuff.

Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

Just had to share this article from Carlos Whittaker.

Day 39 – Hi my name is Grace

He is good. He is so good. When I succeed. He is good. When I fail. He is good.

These past two-threeish weeks have been similar to a kiddie rollercoaster. No crazy highs or crazy lows but definitely some little bumps in the road and starts and stops.

TIU – Welp…let’s just say once they started doing so many things with a partner, I kind of gave up. Kind of. I started doing Jillian workouts at work and doing Tone It Up less and less to the point where I just like reading their blog to learn healthy eating tips. Darn it! Mission failed. However! I am going to try to attempt the last week of the challenge. To redeem myself. Pray for me please ūüôā

Reading – Zach decided to take the reading¬†challenge¬†also to encourage me and because he loves to read. Yes, he is a sweet boyfriend. We decided to do month 1 together. Which turned out to be hit and miss. HIT because we loved the book like we knew we would. MISS because we still havent finished haha turns out when you do not live together its tough to read a whole book together in a month. But we are determined to finish. Feb book is expensive at the moment so I am going to switch it to To Kill A Mockingbird. BTdubs…what a fantastic book. Clive Staples is a genius. I believe I could read The Screwtape Letters 20 times and still hear new refreshing ideas that I can apply to my life.

Baking – COMPLETE! Hurray! The one task that was completed. I made Maple Scones from scratch and apparently they were not so bad. I would really like to try another recipe. Maybe another time. Next – English Muffins!

Jesus Calling

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
‚ÄĒHebrews 4:15-16

This book is a continuous blessing. January I would consider a success for this challenge. I believe I missed 3-4 days out of the thirty. Not bad! Feb hasn’t got off to a great start with¬†obedience¬†but it’s still in tact and waiting on me. I am so thankful that we serve a Lord that is the epitome¬†of grace. When I forget to read he smiles and says today we enjoyed the sun. Or says today we enjoyed being with ones you love. He puts everything in perspective.

“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, ‚ÄúLord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.‚ÄĚ But the Lord answered her, ‚ÄúMartha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.‚ÄĚ – Luke 10:38-42

I want to enjoy this time I have with the Lord. Not toil over forgetting to read a paragraph. He sees me delighting in Him. And if I start leaving him behind, he is still working just as hard for me. Because God is consistent. He is prepared. And He is Better. I pray I wake up daily and choose He that is Better.

Day 23 – The Words I Would Say

After a week where I would say my success to failure ratio has tilted, all I can do is praise Jesus. He continues to be so good to me!

Listening to The Words I Would Say¬†by the Sidewalk Prophets on the way to work just got me fired up. I cannot wait to spend time with my NE girls tonight and hopefully be a light in their life. “God’s got his hands on you so don’t live life in fear”. Mmm so good. And then my brother brings up another song by them that is just as incredible! You Love Me Anyway. Which may be more appropriate with my week ūüôā

That bridge – “Yes then, I turned away with a smile on my face
With this sin in my heart tried to bury Your grace
And then alone in the night, I still called out for You
So ashamed of my life, my life, my life
But You love me anyway
It’s like nothing in life that I’ve ever known
Yes,You love me anyway”

Day 16 – A year ago, TIU updates and resting

I started to blog about how the workouts have been going in the past week and then completely got smacked in the face with how much I was taking them for granted. A year ago today I was driving to Nashville and got in an accident that broke both my feet and hands. It was a scary experience but the Lord is good. He provided me with such wonderful support even though I was not in the state of any family members.

Today, a year later, I am healed almost 100% and have the strength to do a 6 week fitness challenge. How incredible.

TIU Monday – Journaled 5 things I am grateful for on the community blog. Jesus, loved ones, my health, my job and chai. Also packed healthy lunches for the week!
TIU Tuesday – SICK. Christine and I celebrated her birthday at Hananoki Monday night and we both were sick all day Monday. No good.
TIU Wednesday – Since I was sick I moved Monday’s workout to Tuesday. Oh the SHREADmill. Holy goodness. This was the hardest workout I have done since Insanity. And that was fall 2010. Here is the workout.

  1. 30 squat jacks
  2. 30 tummy tucks
  3. 30 burpees
  4. Sprint 2:00 minutes
  5. 20 squat jacks
  6. 20 tummy tucks
  7. 20 burpees
  8. Sprint 1:00 minute
  9. 30 squat jacks
  10. 30 tummy tucks
  11. 30 burpees
  12. Sprint 2:00 minutes
  13. 20 squat jacks
  14. 20 tummy tucks
  15. 20 burpees
  16. Sprint 1:00 minute

I finished this in 33 minutes which is not that great. However there are only improvements from here! To run, because it was so cold/dark outside and I thought someone may get me, I decided to do the sprinting in my house. Which was hilarious. Running in circles through my dining room, kitchen, hall way then through my living room. Good stuff.

TIU Thursday – Running? Fail.
TIU Friday –¬†Challenged¬†to do something that made me happy. Well I dressed up in a suit (on a Friday!) and had an interview for a job that could be a wonderful challenge and great step for me. While it was nerve-wracking, it was definitely something that made me happy because I put my best foot forward and I am confident who is hired will be the best person for the job.
TIU Saturday – I switched Saturday and Sunday. Sat was working out with a friend.
TIU Sunday – Zach bought me the new EA Sports Active 2 for PS3 so we did that twice on Sunday!
TIU Monday –¬†EA Sports Active this morning for a Total Body workout that lasted 26 min. Today it says go back to your new year goals and read over them and check out how you are doing. I think I am on a decent track. Working out 100% more than last year. Eating better and happy overall. Check and check.

Jesus Calling continues to be a perfect place for the Lord to speak to me the loudest lately. Today it emphasized that rehearsing your troubles is pointless. It creates unnecessary¬†worry and fear. “Do not multiply your sufferings” “Relax in my peace”. Sure I could get worried about the job interview, friends surgery, being away from family but I refuse. I am here and enjoying what the Lord has provided me. Which just so happens today, is a day off. So I was able to sleep in, enjoy a morning workout, make coffee around lunchtime and now blogging in the middle of the day. Praying for all those things I could worry about a knowing that God is taking care of it. Matthew 11:28-30, Joshua 1:5, 9

Challenge #4 – One new baked good a month

For the ultimate counterproductive move to my 6-week fitness series, my final challenge I have taken on is one new baked good a month.

The Lord has called me this year to enjoy the things I love. Which is oh so sweet of him. Some things that I enjoy I don’t even allow myself to have the time to actually enjoy them. I feel like this is like looking at a mountain but never getting to experience the joy of looking down from the top and¬†reminiscing about the journey to get there¬†.

I LOVE baking. Possibly because I love dancing in the kitchen to my music so much but, I also love gracing people with sweets. However, I will be the first one to look at a mouth-watering picture and say, “wow , I bet that is amazing” or “That would be fun to make!” but then flip the page and go on about my business. I might tab the page if it’s lucky. But I rarely (except Christmas) go out of my way to try those new things! So in an effort to enjoy what God has given me an affinity for and to bask in sugary sweetness, I proudly accept this challenge.

So the winning bad-for-my-hips sweets are!

January – Scones

February – English Muffins

March –¬†From Scratch Cinnamon Rolls by The Pioneer Woman

April –¬†Croissant

May – Fruit Crepe

June –¬†Macarons

July –¬†Cannoli

August – Sourdough

September –¬†Bread Pudding (Zach’s Favorite)

October – Creme Brulee (I get a torch!)

November – Coffee Cake

December – Homemade Marshmallows

I think I am most excited about the breads and the macarons although they say they are very difficult to make. Fantastic!

I think it’s about that time to workout…

Day 9 – Let me set the pace

Traveling into week two, I feel like 5 hour energy could be created from my bloodstream. Today has been a constant go-go-go.

Beginning with waking up early, unscheduled and scheduled meetings, work, workout with coworkers, birthday dinner celebration with Christine, Leg workout and odds and ends all day.

Beautifully, my precious Savior spoke to me today asking me to allow him to set the pace of my journey. He¬†reiterated¬†to me that if I want to stay close to him ask him the way moment by moment. Moment by moment. This idea so wonderful and completely energizing! As I am waking up early, celebrating a birthday dinner, or writing an email. Moment by moment asking him to set my pace and guide my steps. And trusting that he will. Just free. Pastor Craig this weekend spoke about choosing a life that is Better. About spending so much time with Jesus that you simply crave him. That life becomes as it says in Psalm 63:1-3 …better than life. Our souls crave things of this world but as we allow Him moment by moment to take us on a journey, our lives transform into something better than life. As Craig mentioned…going from a medium well stake to a medium rare stake! Yes, oh my goodness try it. The freedom and the stake.

As I continue into week two I pray that I spend moment by moment my His side. And if He wants me to stay at work talking to someone instead of reading that next chapter to better a challenge, be excited that His path is more fruitful. And I will not be ashamed of that.

I may however try and sneak it in later ūüôā

TIU Monday – Journal and Leg pyramid – ouch. Also completed sweating after work to Jillian’s 30 day shred (bonus!)

The Leg Pyramid

  • 20 squats
  • 30 lunges
  • 40 toe touches¬†(head forward, legs straight, bend down & touch your toes)
  • 50 second wall sit¬†(sit up against a wall, legs at 90 degrees & hold it!)
  • 90 second jumping jacks
  • 50 second wall sit
  • 40 toe touches
  • 30 lunges
  • 20 squats

TIU Friday – 8am-8am 30 crunches every hour
TIU Saturday – Bought healthy foooods
TIU Sunday – Forgot my running shoes so did the bike for 36 min (aka. the amount of time it took Zach to play a round of Battlefield 3)

Book – 4 Letters into The Screwtape Letters – C.S. Lewis is a genius

Baked good – Still need to blog the year’s new but completed January’s this past weekend. Scones!
